Director Blake Calhoun wanted his film "Casey Makes a Mixtape" to not only be set in the 1980s, but he wanted it to look and feel like it was actually from the 1980s. As if it was a movie made in 1981.
He did three main things to pull this off:
Period art direction & props ('80s furniture, cars, jambox and more)
1980s wardrobe & hairstyles (thrift store finds, replica vintage clothes and "Farah Fawcett" Google searches)
Color grading and a "film look" (using FilmConvert film stock emulation and film grain)
And we'll take deeper dives into each of these topics in future posts.
(UPDATE: Read this post to see how the filmmakers used color grading and a film look)
The movie is NOW STREAMING on Amazon, Apple TV, Fandango at Home, YouTube Movies and Google Play.
